Ingredients:
4 beef cube steaks
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon garlic powder
2 large eggs
½ cup buttermilk
½ cup vegetable oil (for frying)
For the gravy:
3 tablespoons pan drippings (from frying)
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk
Salt and black pepper to taste
📝Instructions:
In a shallow bowl, combine flour, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and buttermilk.
Dip each cube steak into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and back into the flour to coat evenly.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When hot, add the steaks and fry until golden brown on both sides, about 3–4 minutes per side. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
Pour off most of the oil, leaving about 3 tablespoons along with the browned bits in the pan.
To make the gravy, whisk in the flour and cook over medium heat for 1–2 minutes until lightly browned. Slowly whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve the crispy country fried steaks topped with creamy gravy and enjoy with mashed potatoes or biscuits for a hearty Southern meal.
